Oh dear, I am finally back in Canada!
I am so sorry I wasn't able to post my last blog entry earlier, but in the heat of the last week, I found myself having to pack and try to finish writting my research paper at the same time. So, during my last week at my internship, I was mostly working in the laboratory, because all of the other departements din't have any activities going on until the mid-may. During my last week in the laboratory, I din't do much either. I found myself mostly helping the staff finishing up some stuff before their big presentation. In the polish education, on a certain date I can't quite remember, but know is in may, most primary and high schools visit either universities or centers which present them with interesting facts about their field. This is done in order to introduce the students to the science field. My center was taking in some students from elementary school, and the workers had to not only present their specific field in a way that the younger children will understand, but they also had to prepare a small demonstration for the children. On the tusday of my last week, I was brought by two of the workers to two different pitlands. This was quite interesting for me, as I am much more of a visual person, this allowed me to understand better the work they do in this department. I was also able to see the plants they have put back into the nature before the winter. They also had to take a couple of pictures in order to present the other workers at the center the current state of the plants, and to demonstrate to them as well if the plants survived through winter or not. Finally, on my last day there, I was helping the workers with their monthly clean-up. Therefore, all we had to do was disinfect elements such as the interior of the fridge, the laminar and so on. Sadly, I had to say good-bye to my baby plants on that same day, as it was my last day there. However, my supervisor promised me to send me pictures of them in a couple of months, so if all goes well, I should be posting their picture soon!
For the 6th week, I had left from Poland and returned to Canada for some personal reasons. As much as I had fun in Poland, my grandma would always say: there is no place like home. It felt good to be back in a country where my speaking was much more fluent than my polish speaking, and to see my family. However, my experience in Poland has changed me in so many ways, and has opened my eyes to many new fields. Who knows, maybe one day, I will be opening my own business thanks to the entrepreneurial department, become a neuropsychologist thanks to the biology department, and will be able to promote my business on my own, thanks to the social department.
